nor will it delay. The bald statement that this vision will not delay appears to contradict the opening clause of this sentence, which grants the possibility that the vision might tarry. A resolution of this difficulty by appeal to distinctive shades of meaning between the two Hebrew words for tarry and delay falters for lack of clear evidence that an adequate distinction exists between the two words. More probable is the line of resolution proposed by John Calvin, who suggests that from the human perspective the vision may appear to tarry in its fulfillment because of the long period involved in its realization. But from God's perspective, the certainty of its fulfillment precisely according to the divine plan cannot be questioned.3
